EPOS257

Epos 257 is a Czech visual artist who focuses on public space and urban iconography. Sensitive social themes often resonate in his work, and he repeatedly addresses issues related to public space and its relationship to legislation. He began as a graffiti artist, and his pseudonym, Epos 257, refers to the legal provisions regarding damage to another person’s property. He is a graduate of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (VŠUP) and a member of the Ztohoven collective.

Epos’s work encompasses various formats—from murals to installations. In 2009, for example, he placed bales of hay in the center of Prague, sparking a media frenzy. A year later, he fenced off an area on Palackého Square, thereby exploring the limits of public space. In 2013, he carried out the “Portrait” project, in which he intervened in political campaigns using billboards. His work often sparks discussions about the ethics of art and the boundaries between the public and the private.
